Washburn County Farmers to Families FREE Food Box Distribution partner with

Subaru Share the Love Events for Meals on Wheels Participants

Location:  Washburn County Highway Department, 1600 County Highway H, Spooner, WI 54801

Time: Estimated start between 10-11 a.m.

Homebound Meals on Wheels Participants will have food boxes delivered directly to their homes.

ONE BOX PER VEHICLE for those picking up.

How will distribution work?

The distribution will start once the food has been delivered and unloaded at the Washburn County Highway Department. Due to the uncertainty of the weather and the truck's estimated time of arrival, we will anticipate the distribution to start sometime between 10-11 a.m. The distribution will continue until all 931 boxes are gone. From our past experience at previous distributions, it can take anywhere from 1-4 hours, dependent upon how many people show up. There are NO GUARANTEES it will last that long. We will post on Facebook as soon as all boxes are gone.

There will be one entrance and one exit to the facility on Highway H, Spooner. If the Highway Department parking lot is filled, overflow traffic will be directed to park at another location. Law Enforcement will be present to assist in directing this traffic to not block highways or emergency entrances to the hospital and clinic. Once in line at the Highway facility, please follow the signage and flaggers, who will be directing vehicle traffic to form two lanes and proceed to the three distribution sites. You will be asked to remain in your vehicles at all times, to allow for a safe and efficient process. Once at the loading zone, you will be asked to pop your trunk. A volunteer will then put your food box and gallon of milk inside and shut the trunk. For your safety and that of our volunteers, we will all be wearing safety vests, masks, and gloves. We would ask that if at any time you need to roll down your window to speak to a volunteer, that you also please wear a mask.

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF BOXES ALLOWED: Due to the large response and those families that are being turned away, we have LIMITED ONE box per vehicle. There will be no exceptions. If you are a Washburn County resident that is a homebound senior, quarantined due to COVID, or a family with absolutely no transportation, you can call our office to see if we can make arrangements to have a delivery made to you. Please share this information with your family and friends! If you have questions, please contact the Washburn County Unit on Aging at 715-635-4460.

December 30, 2020, will wrap up our last food distribution of 2020. Coincidently, these events aligned with our annual 2020 Subaru Share the Love Event for Meals on Wheels, which takes place from November 19, 2020, through January 4, 2021. The opportunity to participate in the Farmers to Families Free Food Box Distribution could have not presented itself at a better time. Not only were we able to deliver food boxes for all of our Meals on Wheels recipients, but we were able to additionally provide for many families throughout our rural communities. Thank you to all of the Washburn County staff, local organizations, and volunteers for withstanding the elements at our outdoor distribution center and to deliver food boxes to the homebound, people on quarantine, and those without access to transportation. From October through December 2020, we will have distributed over 6124 boxes of food with a fiscal impact of over $272,000. Your dedication to helping your fellow neighbors, during a worldwide pandemic, just shows that there still is and always will be hope for a bright future and #WeWillGetThroughThisTogether#HelpingOurNeighbors #SharetheLove #Subaru_usa #MealsonWheels #FightingHunger #FightingIsolation #WashburnCounty #KickingCOVID #ThereIsHope #VaccineOnTheWay #LookingForwardToHugs #CheersToABrightNewYear
