INMATE VISITATION -- As of June 15, 2009
INMATE VISITATION -- As of June 15, 2009
Closed circuit video visitation has been installed at the jail. Starting Monday, June 15, 2009, the new video visitation procedure will begin.
Since 911, the heat has been on to make our government buildings more secure. Our procedure for inmate visitation involves the public entering the secure area of the jail and emergency dispatch center area. With video visitation, no one enters the jail, unless they are Law Enforcement, under arrest or by approval of the Sheriff. The current procedure for inmate visitation involves a Jailer escorting the inmate to the visitation booth. Visitation occurs on the weekend and in the evenings when Sheriff's staff is at a minimum.
With video visitation, our citizens, who have the unfortunate burden of having a family member incarcerated, will enjoy expanded visitation hours. Currently, the jail has approximately 3 hours a week (spread over three days) of visitation per classification (Secure, Huber and female.) Video visitation hours are now expanded to 60 available hours a week. Visitation will be Monday through Friday and is first come, first serve. Morning Visitation hours begin at 8:30AM and end at 11:30AM. Afternoon Visitation hours begin at 1:00PM and end at 4:00PM.
The recommendation for video visitation was given by Mr. Billy Wasson, of the National Institute of Corrections, in his May 29th assessment of the jail and justice system.
With video visitation, the current 2-inmate/2-visitor visitation booth is empty. This valuable space will be used as a nursing station/office. There is a tremendous amount of nursing equipment and medical records occupying an already deficient space for administrative duties.
