Washburn County Maternal Child Health (MCH) Program

Public Health Nurses provide programming to assure quality health services are delivered to mothers, children, and families in Washburn County.

Maternal Child Health Priorities:

  • Increasing healthy birth outcomes
  • Promoting and assuring comprehensive primary care for children ages birth to 21, including children with special health care needs.
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles among school-age youth, ages 6-21, including children with special health care needs.
  • Pre-conception counseling, pregnancy-testing, and reproductive health services.

Breastfeeding - One-to-one breastfeeding education and support

Car Safety Seat Program - Children from birth to 8 years of age are required by law to be properly positioned in a car seat. Appointments can be made with a certified car seat safety inspector that will educate and instruct the family on how to position and install car seats safely.

Newborn Mailing Program - Education packets containing materials on immunization, infant safety, birth spacing and other public health programs are sent to every home of a newborn.

Newborn Referral Program - Washburn County Health Department receives newborn referrals from area medical providers and these contacts are done by telephone or home visits. Some clients are offered case management services through the PNCC Program.

Water Well Testing - This testing is offered at no charge to households where a pregnant/breastfeeding woman or infant resides.
